Lufthansa has decided to cancel several flights to the Middle East due to the worsening security situation.

Specifically affected are flights to Tel Aviv (Israel), Beirut (Lebanon), Tehran (Iran), Amman (Jordan), and Erbil (Northern Iraq).

This measure, originally scheduled to last until August 13, 2024, has now been extended until August 21.

The decision is due to the increasing escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran, which has heightened the risk for passengers and crew.

Passengers whose flights are affected have the option to cancel or rebook their tickets free of charge.

As Der Westen reports, the security measure affects all airlines in the Lufthansa Group, including Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings.

Air France has also canceled flights to Beirut until further notice but continues flights to Tel Aviv.

The decision to avoid the airspace over Iran and Iraq is based on a recent security analysis that highlights the risk of possible retaliatory strikes.

The region remains tense, especially after the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyyeh in Tehran, which is attributed to Israel and could lead to further escalations.
