A deadly shooting in the northern Athens suburb of Thrakomakedones on Sunday appears to be connected to a growing underworld conflict over drug trafficking, according to police reports.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. when gunmen opened fire on two men as they were leaving a local café. One man was killed, and the other was critically injured. This was reported by Ekathimerini.

The 47-year-old Albanian victim was known to have ties to organized crime and had previously been implicated in extortion activities. Authorities believe he was targeted as part of a larger feud between criminal groups vying for control of the regional drug trade. The second victim, a 45-year-old man with a fake identity, also had connections to the “Greek Mafia.”

This shooting follows a similar assassination in May in the southeastern Athens district of Vyronas, raising suspicions that the two incidents are linked.

The critically injured victim remains hospitalized, while the perpetrators are still at large.
