Today, a security breach occurred at the Romanian Palace of the Parliament when a visitor threw gasoline near the entrance of the Chamber of Deputies' visitor area, reports Digi24.
A staff member inside the building suffered a panic attack after allegedly being doused with fuel and was given medical attention.
The fire, which covered approximately 30 square meters, was swiftly put out by firefighters stationed within the building.
The Bucharest-Ilfov Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU) reported that the fire broke out in the Constantin Brâncuși Hall, in a visitor section, damaging textiles and office supplies.
Thankfully, no one was harmed, and the fire was fully extinguished. Around 300 individuals were evacuated from the building as a safety measure.
Investigation launched
According to the Capital Police, a visitor was involved in a sudden altercation and allegedly threw a flammable liquid within the Parliament. Authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the situation.
Thanks to the quick actions of the on-site firefighters, the fire was contained, and the evacuation of those inside ensured everyone's safety.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the motives behind this act and to prevent future incidents of this nature.
