The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have uncovered an underground bunker in Beirut, Lebanon, believed to belong to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

According to Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, the bunker, located beneath a hospital, contained more than $500 million in cash and gold.

The bunker was allegedly the personal property of slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

According to the Times of Israel, this discovery adds weight to Israel's claims that Iran has been funding Hezbollah for years.

Hagari criticized the use of these vast resources, saying, "This money could have been used to rebuild Lebanon, but instead it was used to strengthen Hezbollah." He called on the Lebanese government and international organizations to ensure that these funds are not used to further Hezbollah's terrorist activities against Israel.

Despite the financial nature of the discovery, the IDF has refrained from targeting the hospital itself, with Hagari emphasizing that their conflict is with Hezbollah, not the Lebanese people.

Israel continues to monitor the underground site closely.

This disclosure follows recent IDF airstrikes targeting Hezbollah’s financial network. Israeli jets bombed key facilities in Damascus, reportedly killing a Hezbollah commander responsible for managing the group’s finances and arms transfers.

The commander’s name has not been released, but he is said to have replaced a previous leader who was also killed by Israeli forces.

Tensions between Hezbollah and Israel escalated in October 2023, when Hezbollah began launching rockets into Israeli territory, following an attack by Hamas militants. Since then, the two sides have engaged in frequent exchanges of fire. In response, Israel launched a full-scale military operation in southern Lebanon. During the fighting, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed, along with two of his successors.
