In Derbyshire County, East Midlands, England, the local police force has adopted an unconventional patrol vehicle.

Challenging Terrains

According to Tech the Valtra tractor is being used for operations in rural and forested areas where standard police cars fall short.

Derbyshire police officers have added a Valtra agricultural tractor to their fleet.

This tractor is primarily deployed to combat crime in challenging terrains that typical police vehicles cannot navigate. The tractor, loaned for free by a local dealer, may soon become a permanent addition to the police force.

Not the Only Tractor

'The police have outfitted the tractor with essential law enforcement equipment, including a police siren and a custom paint job in police colors. While its primary role is operational, the tractor also serves as a crowd-puller at community events and promotional activities, captivating both adults and children.

Despite some critics questioning the necessity of such a vehicle, the police remain convinced of its utility. Though it has yet to be involved in any high-profile operations, its potential in rural crime-fighting is acknowledged.

Interestingly, Derbyshire's Valtra isn't the only tractor in service within the UK's emergency response teams. A Valtra T140 has been in use for several years by the Sidmouth Lifeboat in Devon, where it assists in launching rescue boats into the sea. Similarly, in Poland, agricultural tractors are found within various services, including military units and fire departments.
