Putin Ordered My Murder, Says Grozev
Bulgarian investigative journalist Christo Grozev has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of personally orchestrating a plot to spy on, kidnap, and kill him, according to 20minutos. Speaking to Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Grozev claimed the plan involved transporting him to Moscow for execution in a brutal manner.
“Their plans are terrible—not just surveillance but also kidnapping me and taking me to Moscow,” Grozev said. “What shocks me is that it now appears proven that Putin himself ordered it all, rather than a general in the intelligence services.”
Grozev, a reporter for The Insider, revealed that the plot was set to unfold in December 2020, shortly after his groundbreaking investigation into the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who later died.
Threats Force Relocation to the United States
In early 2023, Grozev fled Vienna, where he had lived for years, due to growing threats from Russian intelligence. “Vienna had become so dangerous for me that I couldn’t stay,” he stated. Following an intelligence warning of potential risks, he relocated to the United States to ensure his safety.
The journalist has since continued his investigations, highlighting the dangers faced by those uncovering abuses tied to the Russian state.
FSB’s Role in Navalny’s Poisoning Uncovered
Grozev’s work at The Insider concluded that at least eight operatives from the Russian Federal Security Service’s (FSB) Institute of Criminology were directly involved in Navalny’s poisoning. These findings underscore Russia’s alleged use of state resources to eliminate political opposition.
Grozev’s claims add to mounting concerns about Moscow’s attempts to silence critics and dissidents abroad, as Putin faces ongoing scrutiny for his government’s actions.
