North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for the development of a modern, powerful military capable of handling any conflict. During recent visits to military academies, he emphasized the need for loyalty, sacrifice, and enhanced training, according to state media KCNA.
Strengthening North Korea’s Military Capabilities
Kim's visit to the Kang Kon Military Academy follows reports that North Korea has sent thousands of troops to Russia to support its war against Ukraine.
He also toured the Kim Il Sung Political University, an elite training institution, where he criticized the current state of military education.
As reported by Digi24, Kim demanded extensive reforms, including facility renovations and a curriculum focused on modern warfare.
He stressed the importance of hands-on training to familiarize soldiers with advanced weapons and technology.
"The current international situation, where imperialists’ aggressive and warlike nature is more openly expressed than ever, requires our armed forces to be fully prepared for war," Kim stated, according to KCNA.
North Korea’s Involvement in Russia’s War
South Korean intelligence suggests that Kim's recent military inspections may be part of preparations to send additional troops to Russia.
Ukrainian officials claim that over 3,000 North Korean soldiers have already been killed or wounded while fighting in Russia.
Analysts warn that North Korea stands to benefit from its involvement, gaining combat experience and insights into modern battlefield tactics.
Kim’s push for a stronger military signals his intent to solidify North Korea’s position amid rising global tensions, reinforcing his commitment to military expansion and international alliances.
