A Melbourne man has been arrested after allegedly stealing four Olympic medals and various personal items from the vehicle of Drew Ginn, a member of Australia's renowned rowing team, the 'Oarsome Foursome.'

Theft of Olympic Medals

Victoria Police confirmed that Ginn's medals — three gold and one silver — were stolen during a break-in on September 7, 2024, while his car was parked on Cumberland Street in Melbourne's Docklands area.

The 49-year-old Olympian was reportedly giving a talk at a local school when the thief broke into his vehicle.

According to an article in Drive, in addition to the Olympic medals, the suspect allegedly took a Rip Curl wetsuit, a GoPro camera, and Sony headphones. The stolen items, including the medals, have not yet been recovered.

The suspect, a 47-year-old man, was arrested on September 10, 2024, after being identified by Victoria Police. He has been charged with multiple offenses, including theft from a motor vehicle, obtaining property by deception, obtaining financial advantage by deception, and handling stolen goods.

The man is set to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on September 12, 2024.

Ginn, who won gold at the 1996 Atlanta, 2004 Athens, and 2008 Beijing Olympics, and silver at the 2012 London Games, has called for the public's help in locating the missing medals.
