In Thailand's Phatthalung province, a 7th-grade student gave birth in a gas station bathroom during a school field trip and left the newborn behind. This is reported by local media Sanook.
The incident unfolded when a group of students from Narathiwat province were on an educational trip to Phatthalung. During a rest stop at a PTT gas station, one of the students, complaining of menstrual cramps, spent an unusually long time in the bathroom. Unbeknownst to her teachers and classmates, she had given birth and left the baby in a trash can before rejoining the group.
The newborn girl was discovered by gas station staff, who alerted local authorities. Police, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Winit Phakdeewan and Pol. Maj. Kittidej Somwong, along with rescue workers, responded to the scene.
The infant was immediately taken to Tamode Hospital for care.
Through CCTV footage, police identified the mother as one of the students on the field trip. When confronted, the girl's teachers were shocked, having mistaken the situation for a severe case of menstruation. Blood stains on the bus seat had initially been explained away as part of her menstrual cycle.
The young mother was later reunited with her baby at the hospital. Social services from Phatthalung province have intervened to provide psychological support for the student and ensure proper care for the infant.

While teen pregnancy rates have been declining in the United States, unfortunately, this is not the case in several Asian countries, where far too many teenagers continue to become pregnant.
