North Korea’s upcoming postal stamp collection, scheduled for release on January 20, will feature Russian text alongside Korean, English, and Chinese for the first time.
This was reported by the South Korean media outlet Yonhap on January 10.
The Korea Stamp Corporation showcased four new stamps on its website, along with an order form containing multilingual descriptions, including Russian.
This marks a departure from previous practices, where even stamps commemorating significant ties with Russia, such as the 2015 "Year of Friendship" series, omitted Russian text.
Analysts view this decision as a clear indication of the strengthening relationship between Pyongyang and Moscow.
This follows a recently signed mutual defense treaty between the two nations, which has reportedly led to North Korea sending thousands of troops to aid Russia's military efforts in Ukraine. Additionally, military and economic collaboration between the two countries has intensified in recent months.
North Korea has also published stamp albums celebrating its ties with both Russia and China.
Notably, the Russian-themed album was assigned a lower numerical code than the Chinese one, prompting speculation that Pyongyang may now prioritize its alliance with Moscow over its long-standing relationship with Beijing.
