A 28-year-old man was recently arrested after opening the emergency exit door of a plane and jumping onto the tarmac during landing at Auckland Airport in New Zealand.

The incident took place on a Qatar Airways flight.

The man, who was already in police custody during the flight, attempted to evade authorities by opening the emergency exit door and jumping out as the plane was landing. He sustained injuries during the fall and was subsequently taken into police custody.

According to reports from 1news, the man has been charged with interfering with the aircraft, an offense that carries a maximum prison sentence of one year.

Court documents confirm that he breached the Civil Aviation Act and is scheduled to appear in the Manukau District Court on Friday to face the charges.

Investigations into the exact circumstances of the incident are still ongoing.
