The Danish Board of Food Administration has decided to ban certain super spicy noodles that have gained popularity among children and young people.
The reason behind this decision is the potential risk posed by chili in large quantities, particularly to children and young adults.
Symptoms such as burning, discomfort, nausea, vomiting, and increased blood pressure have been reported, leading to the decision to withdraw these products from store shelves.
Dr. Tracy Ghattas, an expert in the field, explains that reactions after consuming overly spicy food can be dramatic.
Individuals may turn red, start sweating, and experience pain as the food's strength activates pain receptors in the mouth's mucous membranes. This sensation occurs due to capsaicin, the substance responsible for the heat.
Regarding the banned noodles, which are approximately twice as strong as a jalapeño, Dr. Ghattas expresses surprise: "They're strong, but not catastrophically strong," she states, adding, "I don't quite understand why they've been banned," during an interview with TV4.
Super spicy noodles have become a trend among young people, who challenge each other to film their reactions while eating them and share the videos on TikTok.
This trend has now been stopped by Danish authorities in an effort to protect consumers.
