Pope Francis Under Medical Care Since Mid-February

The pope has been receiving treatment at the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome since February 14, following his diagnosis of double pneumonia. Despite his condition, he has remained mentally alert and engaged with his medical care team.

As Pope Francis continues his treatment, prayers for his recovery have been held by staff at the Gemelli Polyclinic. On Saturday, a special Mass was held in the Vatican by Bishop Claudio Giuliodori, ecclesiastical assistant of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, which owns the hospital.

During his homily, Bishop Giuliodori expressed the collective hope for the pope’s swift recovery. “Our thoughts are first and foremost with the Holy Father, whom we were supposed to meet this morning in the Paul VI Hall,” he said.

He also acknowledged the dedication of the medical team caring for Pope Francis, emphasizing the importance of both medical expertise and prayer. “We trust in the exceptional skills of our doctors, and we support them with our prayers so they may choose the most effective and appropriate treatments,” the bishop added.

As the world watches closely, the Vatican continues to provide updates on the pope’s health, while millions of Catholics around the globe keep him in their prayers.
