In a significant move, the Speaker of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, has directed the Committee on International Affairs to draft a resolution to suspend Russia's participation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA).
Financial Discontent and Legislative Action
According to ABNews Volodin's decision is rooted in his assertion that Russia will no longer finance what he referred to as a "witch's sabbath" that has no connection to parliamentary structures.
This sentiment was reported by RIA Novosti, highlighting the speaker's strong disapproval of the current state of the OSCE PA.
Deputy Speaker Leonid Slutsky indicated that the draft resolution will be submitted for consideration in the near future.
End of Dialogue with OSCE PA
Deputy Speaker of the lower house, Pyotr Tolstoy, confirmed that dialogue within the OSCE PA is effectively over.
The suspension of Russia’s participation could be decided as early as July 3.
This decision follows an earlier directive from Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, who also called for the preparation of a resolution to suspend Russia's involvement in the organization.
