Daniil Medvedev has established himself as one of the top players in modern tennis.
With a powerful baseline game and an unorthodox style, he has consistently remained among the best in the world.
Since breaking into the top ranks, he has won major titles, including the 2021 US Open, and reached multiple Grand Slam finals.
His performances at the Australian Open have been particularly strong, with three appearances in the final over the past four years.
Known for his intensity on the court, Medvedev has also been involved in several emotional moments during matches.
His latest appearance at the Australian Open ended in controversy, resulting in a significant fine.
Several Violations
According to Ziare, Medvedev has been fined $76,000 (€74,000) for several violations during the tournament.
These include damaging a camera placed on the net and skipping a mandatory post-match press conference.
During his opening match against Thailand’s Kasidit Samrej (ranked 418th ATP), the world No. 5 struck the net multiple times with his racket, breaking a camera in the process.
Later in the tournament, Medvedev suffered a surprising five-set defeat to American Learner Tien (ranked 121st ATP).
The match ended around 3:00 a.m. in Melbourne, and Medvedev chose not to attend the required press conference afterward.
His frustration was clear throughout the match.
At one point, he threw his racket at an advertising board. He also argued with the chair umpire after being penalized for multiple foot faults while serving.
Before this early exit, Medvedev had been a strong contender in Melbourne, reaching the final three times in recent years.
His previous performances at the tournament showed his ability to compete at the highest level. This year, though, his campaign ended earlier than expected, and his actions on the court led to disciplinary action.
