A major scandal has rocked the Norwegian royal family.

Trending Now

While the world’s attention was on the Olympics in Paris, Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s conspicuous absence has now been explained by shocking news. According to Norway's SE og HØR, her eldest son, Marius Borg Høiby, has been arrested.

Dramatic Incident in Oslo

Late Sunday night, a dramatic incident unfolded in an apartment in Oslo. A woman in her 20s was allegedly subjected to a violent assault, with 27-year-old Marius Borg Høiby being suspected of both physical and psychological abuse.

Police report that the woman managed to get Marius out of the apartment and called for help. She was admitted to the hospital with a concussion but has since been released.

Detained for 30 Hours

Shortly after the episode, Marius was arrested and placed in an isolation cell. After 30 hours in detention, he was released on Monday but remains charged in the case.

Since his release, Marius has been staying at the Skaugum estate with his mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit. The Norwegian royal family has chosen not to comment on the incident, but police have confirmed to SE og HØR that the episode did occur.

Royal Family's Silence

This startling case sheds light on the Crown Princess’s absence from the Olympics and raises questions about how the family will handle this serious situation.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit is the daughter of former journalist Sven Olaf Bjarte Høiby and bank clerk Marit Tjessem. She married Crown Prince Haakon of Norway on August 25, 2001, in Oslo Cathedral.

Mette-Marit has a son, Marius Borg Høiby, with Morten Borg. She is also the mother of Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway and Prince Sverre Magnus of Norway.
