Musk’s Alleged Support for Far-Right Groups Sparks Concern

Elon Musk’s growing association with far-right movements poses a threat to democracy in Europe, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said during a press conference in Berlin on Friday, as reported by Politico.

“He supports the far right everywhere in Europe — in the U.K., in Germany, in many, many other countries — and that is something that is completely unacceptable,” Scholz stated.

Musk, who has been vocal in his endorsement of right-wing figures and causes, recently backed Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party ahead of the country’s upcoming snap federal election on February 23. Scholz warned that Musk’s actions could undermine democratic values across the continent.

Scholz Calls Out Musk’s Political Influence

“It endangers the democratic development of Europe, it endangers our community, and it must be criticized,” Scholz added, expressing frustration over Musk’s role in advancing divisive politics.

In addition to his German endorsements, Musk has shown support for Britain’s right-wing Reform UK party, with rumors swirling about potential financial backing. His alignment with President-elect Donald Trump has also cemented his image as a prominent advocate for populist causes.

Scholz clarified that his criticism wasn’t about Musk exercising his freedom of speech but rather about the tech mogul’s political alliances. “His siding with the far right, whether for business interests or for reasons to do with his own political stance, is unacceptable,” the chancellor asserted.

An Ongoing Feud with Broader Implications

Musk’s relationship with Scholz has been marked by sharp exchanges. In response to earlier criticisms, Musk dismissed Scholz as “a fool” and predicted his political downfall.

As Europe grapples with rising populism, Scholz’s remarks highlight the challenges posed by influential figures like Musk who wield considerable sway over public opinion. The chancellor’s strong stance underscores concerns about the intersection of wealth, technology, and political ideology in shaping the future of democracy.
