Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te suggests that if China cares about territorial integrity, it should focus on reclaiming lands from Russia

Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te has suggested that if China is truly concerned about territorial integrity, it should focus on reclaiming 'historical' lands in the Far East from Russia.

According to Reuters, Lai pointed out that Russia is currently in a weakened state, making it a good time for China to act.

Lai's comments refer to territories that China lost to Russia in the 19th century under the Treaty of Aigun.

“If it’s really about territorial integrity, why doesn’t [China] take back the lands Russia took in the Treaty of Aigun? Russia is now at its weakest, right?” Lai said.

He criticized China for threatening to annex Taiwan, arguing that China’s actions are not really about territorial integrity.

Instead, Lai believes China’s real goal is to change the international order and "gain dominance in the Western Pacific."

Tensions between Taiwan and China are high.

China considers Taiwan a breakaway province and hasn’t ruled out using force to take control of the island. However, Taiwan operates as an independent state with its own government, economy, and military, and its leaders say that only the people of Taiwan can decide their future.

Meanwhile, Taiwan’s military is boosting its capabilities by adding FPV drones to its ground forces, inspired by tactics seen in Ukraine. These drones are becoming an important tool in modern warfare, and Taiwan is preparing its forces to stay ahead.
