A new study by Remitly analyzed Google searches from 186 countries to find out which jobs people want the most.
The study looked at how many times people searched for “how to become [job]” in 2024, revealing the most popular careers worldwide.
The most searched job was pilot, with over 432,000 searches. It was the top career choice in 25 countries, including the Czech Republic, Egypt, and Slovakia.
Lawyer came in second, with 393,000 searches, showing a big increase in interest compared to previous years.
Other top jobs included police officer (272,000 searches), pharmacist (272,630), and nurse (248,720). Interest in police work has grown by 440% over the past two years.
Digital Careers Are Growing in Popularity
Social media has had a big impact on career choices, with many people dreaming of becoming a YouTuber, which had 171,000 searches globally. It was the most searched job in 13 countries, including the UK, Singapore, and Indonesia. However, interest in this career has dropped by 11% since 2022.
Other digital careers are also gaining attention, with content creator receiving 52,000 searches and social media manager getting 36,000 searches. The tech field is also attracting interest, with coding ranking high with 48,000 searches.
Healthcare and Public Service Jobs in Demand
Healthcare remains one of the most sought-after career paths. Pharmacist was the most searched healthcare job globally, with 272,000 searches, particularly popular in Japan. Other top healthcare careers include physical therapist (244,000 searches), teacher (175,000), and dietitian (170,000).
In public service, becoming a police officer topped the list with 272,730 searches, followed by nursing, midwifery, and firefighting. Even though interest in becoming a doctor has increased, nursing and midwifery are still more searched worldwide.
Creative and Sports Careers Still Popular
In the arts and entertainment world, acting was the most searched creative career, with nearly 200,000 searches. Other popular choices included voice acting, DJing, and singing.
Sports careers are also a major dream for many people, with “how to become a footballer” reaching 95,000 searches. Fitness-related careers like personal trainers and coaches are also gaining traction, with thousands of searches from people looking to inspire others to stay fit.
The study highlights how career preferences are evolving, with traditional jobs like law and healthcare remaining popular, while social media and digital roles continue to attract attention worldwide.
