The French supermarket, Super U, in Montluel in the Ain region, is having difficulty recruiting new staff. To find ten permanent employees, they are now offering a hiring bonus of no less than 1.500 Euro ($1.600.)

The CEO of Super U, Didier David, in Montluel, about twenty kilometers from the metropolis of Lyon, is a bit worried. He faces ten unfilled full-time positions in his store that he cannot fill. Therefore, he has decided to take matters into his own hands and is trying a relatively drastic solution.

In recent days, the store with 80 employees has launched a more aggressive recruitment campaign by offering a hiring bonus of 1,500 euros for each new hire.

"A gross hiring bonus of 1,500 euros," assures the supermarket's director, who himself says that this step is unprecedented.

"In my industry, it's the first time I've seen this, and in our network of independent retailers, it does not exist," explains Didier David to actu Lyon.

The initiative, which was launched recently, is a response to an urgent need for labor. The store has put up a banner at the entrance, a post on Facebook, and the media have already reported on the original and motivating idea.

Despite the enticing offer, so far, there have not been many applications. "There is some interest, but nothing convincing so far. Permanent employment is not necessarily what the young dream of, as not all are seeking stability," explains the director.

These are the positions they are looking to fill

Bakers, butchers, fishmongers, department staff... The store is actively seeking ten people, only for permanent positions. They need a baker, a fishmonger, a butcher, employees for the cheese department, and staff to drive or stock goods.

"We have real competition in the food industry, and the working conditions are not something everyone dreams of. You have to get up at 5 a.m.," continues the business leader.

He further mentions that a butcher in his store will earn between 2,000 - 2,500 euros ($2.155 - $2.700). Thus, it's not far from a monthly salary that the new employees will receive if they say yes to the job."
