On Monday, November 25, a ship carrying 31 tourists sank in the Red Sea off the coast of Egypt.
According to a report by Interfax, citing local sources, the tourist vessel Sea Story departed from Port Ghalib on November 24 for a five-day diving tour. It was scheduled to return on November 29.
The Sea Story was carrying 31 tourist divers along with 14 crew members on board.
At approximately 5:30 a.m. Monday morning, a distress signal was received from the vessel north of Marsa Alam, a popular resort area on the western shore of the Red Sea. Shortly afterward, all contact with the ship was lost.
Search and rescue efforts were promptly launched, involving a helicopter and assistance from the Egyptian navy.
According to Major General Amr Hanafi, governor of the Red Sea province, the emergency teams successfully rescued several individuals, who have since been transported to local hospitals for treatment.
The exact number of survivors and those still missing remains unclear, and search operations are ongoing.
Reports indicate that the tourists on board were of various nationalities.
