Tourists Trapped in A Mountain Wall in Romania

Mountain Rescuers Save Tourists Caught on Cliff in the Bucegi Mountains

Tourism in Romania’s mountain regions has been growing steadily, attracting adventurers from all over Europe.

But with stunning views come serious risks—especially for those unfamiliar with the terrain.

The Bucegi Mountains, part of the Southern Carpathians, are a popular destination.

However, they’re also known for steep cliffs, rocky paths, and quickly changing weather.

When tourists venture off trails or lack proper gear, mountain rescuers often have to step in.

On Sunday night, April 20, a group of Italian tourists found themselves in trouble in the Bucegi Mountains, reports Ziare.

They got stuck on a rocky wall in the second caldera of the Gaura Valley.

Romania’s National Mountain Rescue Dispatch confirmed that the Bran rescue team was dispatched to help.

Sabin Cornoiu, President of Salvamont Romania, gave a live update on Digi24.

He explained that the tourists were trapped in an area with chains installed for climbing.

These chains are meant to help people navigate tough sections, but only if they are properly equipped. The tourists were not.

They had no flashlights. Their clothes and gear were not warm enough to handle the cold night ahead.

Cornoiu stressed how dangerous it would be for them to try to move from their position. He hoped they would stay put until help arrived.

The rescue team followed the tourists’ trail to locate them. Their goal was to reach them before the situation got worse.

Once the rescuers arrived, the plan was to bring them down safely to the base of the mountain.

These kinds of incidents are not rare. Each year, mountain rescue teams respond to calls like this one.

They often involve hikers or tourists who underestimate the mountain’s difficulty or ignore safety guidelines.

Experts urge anyone exploring Romania’s mountains to check trail conditions, wear proper clothing, and bring essential gear like flashlights, maps, and water.

Nature is beautiful, but it doesn’t forgive carelessness. In this case, fast action by mountain rescuers may have prevented a much more serious outcome.
