In a shocking incident at the National Zoo & Aquarium in Canberra, a 29-year-old female employee was found dead, having been stabbed.
The tragedy unfolded around 12.50 pm (Local time) when ACT Policing and emergency services were called to the scene following reports of a disturbance. The woman's body was discovered in a commercial kitchen area of the zoo.
According to News.com.au, a 29-year-old male colleague of the victim has been identified as a person of interest in the case. He was taken into custody under police guard at Canberra hospital after suffering self-inflicted stab wounds.
Detective Superintendent Hall O’Meagher of ACT Policing revealed that witnesses reported hearing loud screams near the kitchen area before the police were alerted.
No charges have been filed yet, but a homicide investigation is underway. This includes a forensic examination of the scene, interviews with witnesses, and a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The knife believed to be used in the stabbing was found at the scene.
