On October 1, Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence (DIU) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) successfully evacuated 179 people from Lebanon due to the country’s deteriorating security and economic situation.
Among those rescued were 134 Ukrainian citizens, including 112 adults and 22 children.
Additionally, 45 people of other nationalities—Polish, Czech, Lithuanian, Moldovan, Brazilian, and Lebanese—were safely brought home.
This is the third evacuation mission organized by Ukraine since August, with the DIU stressing the urgency and efficiency of the operation in the face of escalating regional threats.
“The operation was executed promptly and without complications, with consideration of the existing threats to the safety of citizens in the region,” the statement reads, as cited by Militarnyi.
Ukraine also thanked Poland and SkyUp Airlines for their assistance in the evacuation.
Since August, Ukraine has evacuated a total of 234 people, including 189 Ukrainians and 45 foreigners. Earlier missions on August 3 and September 4 saw the safe return of 30 and 25 Ukrainians, respectively, many of whom were women and children.
The DIU and MFA continue their efforts to assist Ukrainians who remain in Lebanon, providing necessary resources to facilitate future evacuations if required.
