On November 26, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) announced that the "Tymur Special Unit" had successfully evacuated 15 cats from Snake Island (Zmiinyi Island).

“With winter approaching, the severe cold has made survival increasingly challenging for the many cats and kittens inhabiting Snake Island. To safeguard their well-being, the animals were relocated to one of Ukraine's largest animal shelters, ‘Sirius,’” HUR reported, as cited by United24 Media.

The MacPaw Foundation provided support for the rescue operation.

The intelligence team highlighted that after the cats adapt to their new environment, they will be available for adoption through the "Sirius" shelter, offering an opportunity for individuals to provide them with long-term care.

“The head of the intelligence service is known for his love of animals: he has cats named Günter and Zmiy, a frog called Petro, and several canaries. In April 2022, following the liberation of the Kyiv region, MacPaw Foundation volunteers were among the first to supply food and essential care items to the 'Sirius' shelter,” the intelligence officers noted.

Earlier, on October 5, the Ukrainian Border Guards (DPSU) released exclusive footage of battles over gas production platforms near Snake Island in the Black Sea.
