Nguyen Ngoc My Kim has become a local legend.

For many of us, there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good night's sleep, especially after a long, hard day at work.

But that’s not the case for Nguyen Ngoc My Kim.

In the quiet province of Long An, Vietnam, 49-year-old Kim has become something of a local legend, known as “the seamstress who never sleeps.”

Kim claims she hasn’t slept a wink in the last 30 years—a claim that has earned her the nickname "sleepless mutant."

Despite the attention her story has attracted from news reporters and social media users, Kim remains unfazed.

She has confirmed to the media multiple times that she hasn’t slept in decades and insists that her lack of sleep hasn't negatively impacted her health.

How It All Began

Kim's journey to sleeplessness didn’t start as an extraordinary condition.

As a child, she would stay up late reading books, and as she grew older and became a seamstress, she often worked late into the night to meet deadlines.

Over time, her body seemed to adapt to the late nights.

"I sat in front of my sewing machine and did not dare to sleep because I was afraid of not being able to keep up with orders," Kim told reporters from Hải Dương.

"At first, it was difficult—I felt tired and dizzy, and even had a few traffic accidents. But after staying awake for months, then years, my body got used to it. Now, I can't sleep even if I want to."

A Viral Sensation

While her claim has yet to be medically verified, it's more than just a viral rumor.

People in her community have observed her at work day and night, always at her sewing stall with the lights on and the door open. Visitors are welcome to drop by and see for themselves, and many have.

“At first, few people paid attention to my lack of sleep,” Kim said.

“But as more people noticed that I was always working, the rumors spread, and soon I became famous for my ability to stay awake continuously.”

News of Kim's supposed sleeplessness recently went viral on Vietnamese social media, drawing even more visitors to her sewing stall.

Despite the influx of curious onlookers, Kim is unfazed and keeps her door open to anyone who wants to witness her unusual lifestyle.
