A massive wildfire burning northwest of Los Angeles has led to the evacuation of over 1,000 people and scorched more than 12,000 acres, according to authorities.

The blaze, named the Post Fire, is only 2% contained.

The wildfire, which started on Saturday afternoon, is currently burning south of Gorman, California, approximately 60 miles (96.5 km) northwest of Los Angeles.

According to Reuters, around 400 firefighters, equipped with 70 firetrucks and two bulldozers, are currently battling the flames.

The fire is moving southeast toward Pyramid Lake.

So far, about 1,200 people have been evacuated from the Hungry Valley recreation area, a popular spot for motorcycle and off-road vehicle trails.

Two structures have been destroyed by the fire.

Efforts to contain the wildfire are being hampered by high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds, which are expected to persist through Sunday night.

Water-dropping aircraft are being used to try to halt the fire's progress, while firefighters are constructing perimeter fire lines to gain control of the blaze.
