Authorities in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, have recently shut down an illegal dog meat operation.

The operation, run by a woman identified only by her surname Fan, was reportedly processing up to 100 dogs annually. This is reported by CTWant, which was the first media outlet to break the story.

Fan, who immigrated to Taiwan from Vietnam several years ago, had been conducting this illegal business from a greenhouse on her husband's farm.

Local animal protection officials raided the property after receiving a tip-off. They found 32 dogs in various states of distress, hidden in a secret room behind the greenhouse.

These animals have since been rescued and are receiving care at local shelters.

Fan's ex-husband, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed shock at the discovery. He stated that he had been unaware of the full extent of the operation and had tried to stop it when he found out. The couple had divorced once before, reconciled, and have now separated again due to this issue.

While dog meat consumption is not common in Taiwan and is largely viewed as unacceptable, isolated incidents like this still occur.

The ex-husband also reported that their son knew nothing about the operation, and that Fan couldn't bring herself to stop because it was so lucrative. Each month, it brought in between $20,000 - $28,000.

He also mentions that his ex-wife was initially just a middleman, but later began to wield the knife herself.
