One of China’s largest car manufacturers, BYD (Build Your Dreams), is recalling approximately 97,000 vehicles.

Leader in Electric Vehicles

Founded in 1995, BYD initially made its mark as a rechargeable battery manufacturer before pivoting to the automotive industry in 2003, according to moto.

The company has since evolved into a leader in electric vehicles (EVs) and is recognized globally for its commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.

This recall targets two of its most popular electric models, the Dolphin and the Yuan Plus, which have collectively captured a significant 26% of the company's total sales in 2023.

The models affected were produced between November 2022 and December 2023 and are now required to undergo service due to a potential fire risk associated with a defect in the steering control module.

Direct Intervention from Mechanics

Unlike many software updates that are common in the automotive industry, this recall necessitates direct intervention from certified mechanics, ensuring that the modules are replaced with defect-free units.

This situation marks a rare instance of a large-scale recall for BYD, which historically has seen few service campaigns.

The company's previous recalls included a minor batch of plug-in hybrid vehicles under the less-known Tang brand due to battery-related fire risks.

As electric vehicles (EVs) gain traction in the global market, the spotlight on safety and reliability becomes even more critical for manufacturers like BYD.
