American actor Gary Sinise has suffered the loss of his son to cancer.
McCanna ‘Mac’ Sinise passed away at the age of 33 from a rare form of cancer, as reported by Fox News.
Gary Sinise, known for his roles in films such as Forrest Gump and The Green Mile, penned an extensive tribute to his son on the website of his charitable foundation.
In the tribute, he shared that his son Mac had taken on a leadership role in the foundation on February 27, 2017, exactly seven years prior to his death.
McCanna Sinise was diagnosed with the rare cancer known as Chordoma in 2018 and had been battling the disease since.
There are about 300 cases of Chordoma each year in the USA. This type of cancer affects the bones in the skull and along the spine.
Shortly before McCanna was diagnosed with cancer, Gary Sinise's wife, Moira, was also diagnosed with breast cancer, Gary Sinise revealed in his tribute.
Despite the breast cancer being stage 3 at the time of diagnosis, she is now cancer-free.
