Neuroscientist Robert Lowe has raised an alarm about what he identifies as the worst sugars or sweeteners for the brain.
In a video published on his social media, the doctor highlighted artificial sweeteners found in 'diet' sodas, technically known as aspartame.
Robert Lowe referenced a study conducted in France, which followed 100,000 people over 10 years. The study concluded that individuals who consume 'diet' sodas or foods containing aspartame had a 69% higher chance of developing type 2 diabetes, a condition that significantly increases the risk of Alzheimer's disease.
In addition to aspartame, the neuroscientist also pointed out agave and high-fructose corn syrup as being highly detrimental to the brain, for the same reason of being linked to an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
The WHO has recently classified aspartame, a sweetener up to 200 times stronger than common sugar, as "possibly carcinogenic to humans."
In the video below, Robert Lowe discusses the 3 worst types of sugar for your brain.
