Stanley, a brand widely popularized on social media for its durable and stylish designs, has issued a recall of approximately 2.6 million units due to a safety hazard that has resulted in dozens of burn injuries, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Renowned for their long-lasting insulation and rugged appeal, these mugs are beloved by commuters, outdoor enthusiasts, and coffee lovers alike.
But a recent flaw has put their reputation at risk.
The recall affects specific Switchback and Trigger Action stainless-steel mugs sold between June 2016 and December 2024.
Affected Products
According to a press release by the company, the recall includes the following Stanley travel mugs, identified by their product identification numbers (PIN) printed on the bottom of the mug:
Stanley Switchback, 12-ounce: PIN 20-01437
Stanley Switchback, 16-ounce: PIN 20-01436 or 20-02211
Stanley Trigger Action, 12-ounce: PIN 20-02033, 20-02779, or 20-02825
Stanley Trigger Action, 16-ounce: PIN 20-02030, 20-02745, or 20-02957
Stanley Trigger Action, 20-ounce: PIN 20-02034 or 20-02746
The recall follows 91 reports of lids detaching unexpectedly, creating a risk of burns.
So far, 38 burn injuries have been reported globally, with 11 requiring medical treatment.
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled mugs were available at major retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Target, as well as online, from June 2016 through December 2024.
What Should You Do?
If you own one of these mugs, stop using it immediately and check the PIN on the bottom to see if it matches the recall list. Customers can return the affected mugs for a refund by contacting Stanley.
