Apple has announced that users of its Apple Music service can now transfer their playlists to YouTube Music. Accoridng to Ziare this new feature addresses the issue of fragmentation in the music streaming market, providing users with more flexibility in managing their favorite music across platforms.
Four Easy Steps
To begin the transfer, users need an active Apple Music or iTunes Match subscription and an active YouTube Music account. The process is straightforward and can be completed by following these steps:
Visit Apple's Data and Privacy page.
Log in to your Apple account.
Select the option to "Request a copy of your data."
Follow the on-screen instructions to finalize the transfer.
Limitations of the Transfer
It's important to note that the transfer process can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the number of playlists you want to transfer. Only user-created playlists can be transferred, and the actual music files themselves are not included. Additionally, only songs available on YouTube Music will be transferred, excluding podcasts, audiobooks, or personal files you’ve uploaded.
For YouTube Music users who wish to transfer their playlists back to Apple Music, Google Takeout provides a similar functionality. This feature is especially useful for those who use multiple music streaming platforms and want to synchronize their playlists.
While YouTube Music is currently the only platform supported for this type of transfer, Apple's official documentation hints that other services, like Spotify, may be added in the future.
YouTube Music has also recently introduced several significant improvements, including the integration of the Gemini project, which helps users discover new music. The "Hum to Search" feature, allowing users to find songs just by humming them, adds another innovative way to explore music.
