Margot Robbie, the star and producer of this year's blockbuster hit 'Barbie,' has dismissed the possibility of a sequel.
Despite the film's commercial success, grossing nearly 10 billion kroner globally, Robbie believes the film was a standalone project. In a red carpet interview with Associated Press, Robbie shared her thoughts on the film's future.
"We put everything into this one. We didn't build it for a trilogy or anything," said Robbie. She credited the film's director, Greta Gerwig, for her all-in approach, making it hard to envision a follow-up to the initial success.
Robbie also reflected positively on the achievement of creating a significant box office hit that wasn't a sequel, prequel, or remake. "The biggest takeaway for me is that original films can still be a big hit at the box office," she stated.
She emphasized that original films with substantial budgets can succeed and that having a female lead doesn't limit a film's appeal to all audiences.
This, according to Robbie, counters a common misconception in the film industry.
The interview highlighted Robbie's pride in 'Barbie's' success and her belief in the power of original storytelling in cinema.
