North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has issued a stern warning, stating that his country will not hesitate to retaliate with a nuclear strike in response to any provocations involving nuclear weapons.

This declaration follows the successful trial of the Hwasong-18 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) conducted by North Korea on December 18.

The test, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), was a response to perceived hostile actions by the United States and South Korea. Kim Jong Un expressed his satisfaction with the combat efficiency of the Second Red Banner Company, which participated in the missile launch.

He praised the unit for demonstrating high mobility and rapid attack capability during the launching drill, underscoring the readiness and loyalty of the DPRK's armed forces in defending the nation's sovereignty.

The Hwasong-18 ICBM's trial was noted for its precision, with the missile traveling 1,002.3 km and reaching a maximum altitude of 6,518.2 km within 4,415 seconds before accurately hitting its target in the intended waters. The missile landed outside of Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the Sea of Japan, approximately 250 km west of Okushiri Island, near Hokkaido.

The KCNA emphasized that the missile test did not compromise the security of neighboring countries. However, the North Korean leader's assertion of readiness to launch a nuclear strike in retaliation against nuclear provocation significantly escalates tensions in the region.

This statement reflects the ongoing complex and volatile nature of North Korea's relations with its neighbors and the international community, particularly amidst rising concerns over nuclear proliferation and regional stability.
