After Donald Trump claimed the U.S. would "100 percent" acquire Greenland, the country’s new leader, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, delivered a firm response: “We don’t belong to anyone.”

Jens-Frederik Nielsen didn’t mince words: “We listen when others speak about us. But we won’t be shaken,” he said in a public statement.

Greenland’s reaction is calm but unshakable. “We will respond with dignity, unity, and composure,” Nielsen emphasized in a Facebook post.

This isn’t the first time Nielsen has pushed back. When U.S. Vice President JD Vance led an uninvited delegation to Greenland, Nielsen called the visit “disrespectful.”

The U.S. delegation landed at Pituffik Space Base the same day Nielsen officially became Greenland’s new head of government—without any formal invitation.

Denmark is watching closely

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced she will travel to Greenland this week to meet with Nielsen and express her support.
