For the first time this year, Russia did not launch any major drone attacks on Ukrainian cities or infrastructure overnight, Ukraine’s Air Force reported on April 1.

Officials say it's too early to celebrate, but it’s a rare break in the nearly non-stop drone strikes that have hit the country for months.

The Ukrainian Telegram channel Monitor, which tracks air attacks, shared:

“Main Update for the Morning of April 1, 2025 — during the night, the enemy did not launch any strike drones.”

This is the first time since March 14, and only the second time in 2025, that Ukraine has gone a night without Russian drone strikes. The last time before that was October 14, 2024.

Andrii Kovalenko from Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council said the situation should still be watched carefully:

“We’ll keep monitoring; so far, it doesn’t mean anything.”

Missiles Still a Threat

Even though there were no drones overnight, Russia still launched two guided missiles toward the Zaporizhzhia region, but both were shot down, according to the Air Force.

Officials in the Dnipropetrovsk region also mentioned some drone activity overnight, but didn’t give details about how many or what damage may have been done.

So while the mass drone swarms were missing, some smaller attacks may still have happened.

This break in drone attacks comes shortly after the March 25 ceasefire deal between Ukraine, Russia, and the US, which included an agreement to stop targeting energy infrastructure.

Even with that agreement in place, Ukrainian officials say Russia has kept hitting energy facilities in some areas. It’s unclear if the overnight pause was a sign of real change or just a short break.
