On November 13, Russian forces launched an assault near Kupiansk, with some soldiers reportedly disguised in Ukrainian military uniforms.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported the incident on Telegram, condemning the tactic as a violation of the laws of armed conflict.
The attack began at approximately 2:30 p.m. and included four waves targeting Ukrainian defensive positions. Russian forces deployed around 15 units of equipment, including tanks, armored vehicles, and an UR-77 mine-clearing vehicle.
“The fact that some Russian soldiers wore uniforms of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is a breach of warfare laws and is considered a war crime,” stated the General Staff.
Despite these deceptive tactics, Ukrainian forces successfully repelled the assault, reportedly destroying all Russian armored vehicles and inflicting heavy personnel losses.
This is not the first time Russian forces have allegedly disguised themselves in Ukrainian uniforms. In 2022, Russian soldiers in Ukrainian attire attempted to seize an observation post in the Mykolaiv region but were ultimately neutralized.
