A Russian missile strike targeted a supermarket in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk Oblast, on August 9.

The attack resulted in the deaths of at least 11 people and injuries to 37 others, according to Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office.

This attack is the latest in a series of deadly assaults on civilian areas in the region.

Initial reports from Donetsk Oblast Governor Vadym Filashkin indicated that the town had been hit by artillery, but it was later confirmed that the attack involved a Russian Kh-38 missile.

The missile struck the "Ekomarket" supermarket, causing extensive damage to the building and surrounding area.

Footage shared by local outlet Novosti Donbassa showed the burning supermarket and the devastation around it.

The strike also damaged a freight department of Nova Poshta, Ukraine's largest postal service, which was located in the same shopping center.

One Nova Poshta employee suffered a concussion and is receiving medical treatment. The company has promised compensation for destroyed packages, although some parcels were spared.

In addition to the supermarket and the postal facility, the attack damaged four houses, nine shops, a car wash, and 12 cars, according to Governor Filashkin.

The full extent of the damage is still being assessed as search and rescue operations continue.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that some people remain trapped under the rubble.

"The attack against the supermarket in Kostiantynivka is another case of Russian terror. Warfare against civilians is all they can do," said Andriy Yermak, head of the Presidential Office, on Telegram.

President Zelensky added, "Russia will be held responsible for this terror," on his own Telegram channel.

Kostiantynivka, like many other towns in Donetsk Oblast, has been repeatedly targeted by Russian forces.

In a similar attack in September 2023, a Russian strike on a local market in the town killed 17 people and injured more than 30 others.
