Units from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, operating under the Seversk military training center, successfully stopped a mechanized attack by Russian forces in Kurshchyna.
The operational command "North" shared this update on its official Telegram channel.
The clash occurred in the Kursk region, where Russian troops continue efforts to breach Ukrainian defenses. The assault involved a large number of armored vehicles, including tanks and infantry fighting vehicles.
The Russian command deployed the 104th regiment of the Pskov 76th airborne assault division, aiming to use their numerical advantage to capture Ukrainian positions.
However, the offensive failed early on due to minefields set up by Ukrainian forces. These barriers caused significant losses to the attackers.
In addition to mines, Ukrainian defenders used FPV drones effectively. Despite Russian anti-drone systems, the drones destroyed a large number of armored vehicles.
The assault took place near the settlement of Zeleny Shlyah. Earlier reports indicated that Russian troops faced heavy equipment losses during such assaults, mainly due to anti-tank mines laid in Kurshchyna.
The General Staff reported that Ukrainian forces installed these minefields using engineering units and tactical support groups. In just one assault, Russian forces lost 17 vehicles to these barriers.
Ukrainian troops actively mine potential attack routes using heavy drones, multicopters, ground robotic platforms, and artillery. They use mines from partner nations, Soviet-era stockpiles, and new Ukrainian-made mines.
According to the General Staff, as cited by Militarnyi, Russian forces lost or damaged over 20 pieces of military equipment in October alone due to minefields.
