Egypt has opted to purchase two Lockheed C-130J Super Hercules aircraft instead of the Russian Il-76, according to Bulgarian Military.
Familiarity with American Aircrafts
This decision was announced during the Egypt International Air Show, which concluded on September 5 in El Alamein, according to WP.
The C-130J is the latest version of the well-known Hercules transport aircraft, which has been in service since 1956. Known for its versatility, durability, and reliability, the C-130J has been widely adopted by military forces around the world.
The aircraft entered service in 1999 and has undergone numerous modifications to improve its operational capabilities.
Egypt’s choice for the C-130J reflects its existing operational familiarity with American aircraft. The Egyptian Air Force already operates C-130J-30 Super Hercules models, making the integration of additional C-130Js a more straightforward process.
Simplifies Pilot Training
This decision not only simplifies pilot training and maintenance but also strengthens Egypt’s ties with the United States, enhancing military collaboration and cooperation between the two nations.
The C-130J features four Rolls-Royce AE 2100 D3 engines, enabling it to reach a maximum speed of approximately 410 knots (around 660 kilometers per hour) and offering a range of 2,000 nautical miles (3,800 kilometers). The aircraft measures nearly 100 feet in length, with a wingspan of over 130 feet and a height of about 39 feet.
Lockheed Martin offers various configurations of the C-130J, including the extended C-130J-30 model, which provides increased cargo capacity. Other versions serve specialized roles such as aerial refueling and electronic warfare, making the C-130J a highly adaptable asset for modern military operations.
