He had a one in three million chance of winning the jackpot. On Sunday, December 3, 2023, in Saint-Nicolas, a small commune in Pas-de-Calais, France, a man won 600,000 euros ($654.000) by scratching a ticket from the Française des Jeux, as reported by La Voix du Nord.
As he often does, this regular bought a ticket at St Nicolas, a café-tobacco shop in the town.
This time he opted for the Mega Mots Croisés game, sold for 10 euros ($11). The goal: to find the maximum number of words present in the grid using the 20 letters indicated on the ticket.
"It was the biggest win in this business," said the manager of the establishment.
"He had found eight words and thought he had won 30,000 euros ($32.000). It's my wife who helped him find the ninth," he recounted.
Flowers and chocolate
By discovering the last word, the player won the maximum gain of this game. It's an incredible chance when you know that out of a lot of six million tickets, only two allow you to win 600,000 euros.
No player had ever won such a prize at these merchants, who have been running the café-tobacco shop for twelve years. The lucky winner did not fail to show his appreciation for them.
He celebrated his victory with champagne in their company and offered a bouquet of flowers and chocolates to the manager.
