On August 23, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. This is his first visit to the country since Russia’s full-scale invasion began.

Upon his arrival, Modi was greeted by the Indian diaspora at the Hyatt Hotel in Kyiv.

United24 Media reports that Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for discussions on a range of issues, including bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation.

The talks are expected to result in the signing of several key agreements between India and Ukraine.

A major focus of the discussions will be Modi’s vision and strategies for resolving the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

His visit follows a significant diplomatic exchange on July 19, 2024, when Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba held a conversation with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

That discussion, which took place shortly after Modi’s visit to Russia, emphasized the shared commitment of both India and Ukraine to strengthen ties and continue dialogue amid the conflict.

Modi’s visit signals India’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to play a constructive role in the international response to the war.
