On Thursday morning, a significant fire broke out in a restaurant located in the Mitte district of Berlin, prompting an emergency response from local authorities, reports Tag24.
The blaze, which began around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Oranienburger Strasse and Linienstrasse, resulted in several injuries.
Four individuals were hospitalized with suspected smoke inhalation, although none were reported to be in serious condition.
The intensity of the fire produced a substantial smoke cloud that was visible from a distance, alarming residents in the area.
Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene, focusing on both extinguishing the flames and rescuing those trapped inside the building. To enhance their efforts, a drone was deployed to assist in managing the fire.
The flames spread rapidly, engulfing both the ground floor and the first floor of the restaurant. As a result, many nearby residents were evacuated, and several apartments have been deemed uninhabitable for the time being.
The fire affected not only the restaurant but also adjacent buildings.
Over 100 firefighters and at least 20 fire department vehicles were mobilized to tackle the incident. The fire brigade has established a significant presence on-site as they continue their firefighting and rescue operations.
As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and the investigation is ongoing. Oranienburger Strasse has been closed in both directions between Friedrichstrasse and Tucholskystrasse to facilitate the emergency response and ensure public safety.
Fire department officials are working diligently to bring the situation under control.
