Norwegian Fuel Supplier Cuts Off U.S. Navy Over Trump Dispute

Fuel suppliers don’t usually make headlines, but sometimes business decisions send a strong message.

A Norwegian fuel company, Haltbakk Bunkers, has decided to stop supplying fuel to the U.S. Navy, reports the Kyiv Independent.

The company’s owner, Gunnar Gran, made it clear—this will not change until U.S. President Donald Trump is out of office.

The decision came after a public clash between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

On February 28, Zelensky was set to sign a natural resources deal with the U.S. at the White House.

However, at the last minute, U.S. Vice President JD Vance made comments that led to a heated argument.

The situation escalated, and Zelensky was forced to leave. Trump later claimed that the Ukrainian leader was not “ready” for peace.

The incident angered many, including Haltbakk Bunkers. The company took to Facebook, calling the event “the biggest sh*tshow ever presented live on TV.”

The post praised Zelensky for keeping his composure, despite what it described as a humiliating public betrayal.

Shortly after, the company announced that it would no longer provide fuel to U.S. military forces or naval vessels in Norway.

Haltbakk Bunkers is a major supplier. In 2024, the company provided three million liters of fuel to U.S. warships.

Gran stated that many of his employees are Ukrainian, and the company wants to show its support for Ukraine. He believes the boycott will not cause problems for his business.

The move caught attention, but Norway’s Defense Ministry was quick to respond. On March 2, it released a statement reaffirming the country’s strong ties with the U.S.

The ministry made it clear that American forces will continue to receive the supplies they need in Norway.

Norway has been a key supporter of Ukraine since Russia’s invasion. Along with Denmark, Sweden, and Finland, it recently pledged more humanitarian, military, and energy aid to Ukraine.

Haltbakk Bunkers is now making its stance clear in its own way. The fuel company may not change global politics, but its decision sends a message about where it stands.
