Elon Musk’s political influence has drawn both praise and criticism, but his latest involvement in European politics is sparking outrage at the highest levels of government.

As reported by Digi24, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has strongly condemned Musk’s support for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, calling it “disgusting” and a threat to European democracy.

Speaking at a campaign event in Berlin, Scholz criticized Musk’s backing of right-wing politicians across the continent, warning that such actions undermine democratic stability.

Musk’s Growing Political Involvement

Musk has publicly endorsed AfD ahead of Germany’s February 23 elections, repeatedly using his platform to promote the party’s anti-immigration and anti-EU stance.

His remarks at a recent AfD rally in Halle, where he described the party as “Germany’s greatest hope,” have intensified criticism.

Scholz also condemned Musk’s comments about historical guilt, which appeared to downplay Germany’s past atrocities.

The chancellor, who recently attended a Holocaust remembrance event at Auschwitz-Birkenau, emphasized that Germany remains committed to acknowledging its history and warned against rhetoric that trivializes the past.

Political and Public Backlash

Musk’s interventions in European politics have sparked wider concerns about the role of billionaires in shaping democratic processes. His close ties to former U.S. President Donald Trump and active engagement in right-wing politics have led to accusations that he is using his influence to sway elections.

With Germany’s elections approaching, Scholz’s remarks reflect growing unease over the intersection of technology, wealth, and political power—an issue that is likely to remain a point of contention in both European and global politics.
