The Swedish furniture giant is now looking for ten employees to work for them inside the computer game Roblox.
The non-traditional job offer was announced in an IKEA press release, detailing how these virtual positions will function similarly to regular jobs in their physical stores.
"We are excited to be the first company to offer paid work on Roblox," the press release stated.
Roblox is a popular free online game where players can build and create their own worlds using blocks.
Application Process
To be considered for one of these positions, applicants must be over 18 years of age and residents of the UK or Ireland. The application process includes a job interview similar to what one would experience at a regular job.
The selected candidates will receive the same salary as their colleagues in the physical stores, which corresponds to approximately $16.35 per hour.
Although it may seem unusual, IKEA views this initiative as a way to demonstrate its flexibility and innovation in career opportunities: "Our employees can change roles, change departments, and grow in exactly the direction they want—both in the game and in the real world."
This opportunity also offers a glimpse of what it might be like to work in a world where you never lose a screw when assembling a bookshelf.
