In a heartwarming story that could have easily turned tragic, 11-year-old Thiago Magalhães is being hailed as a hero for his quick thinking.
A viral video shows Thiago entering an elevator with his small dog, Milú, on August 23. Unbeknownst to him, the dog's leash gets caught between the closing elevator doors.
A Close Call
As the elevator begins to move, the CCTV footage reveals that Milú is lifted off her feet due to the trapped leash. Reacting almost instantly, Thiago grabs the leash, lifting it up and freeing his four-legged friend. Both are then seen walking around the elevator, with Thiago in disbelief at the near-miss.
Thiago told Brazilian outlet G1,
"I don't know where I got the courage from, I went on impulse." His father, Rodrigo Magalhães, added, "I was very scared by what happened and realized that the situation was very serious and that it could have been fatal for both the dog and my son."
The online community was quick to commend Thiago's fast action. Comments ranged from praising his quick reflexes to acknowledging that it was a careless but understandable mistake for a child to make.
