Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurinas Kaščiūnas has spoken out after the tragic death of a Polish border guard injured by a migrant on the Belarusian border.
Kaščiūnas expressed his sympathy on Twitter:
"My deepest condolences to our Polish brothers and sisters in connection with the tragic death of their soldier on the Belarusian border. We are jointly resisting the migration crisis organized by Lukashenka. Together we must ensure that such tragedies never happen again."
The Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs also extended condolences to Poland and stressed the need to stop Belarus's use of migrants as political tools.
The border guard died from his injuries on June 6. In response, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has demanded that Belarus hand over the suspected migrant.
This incident is part of a larger pattern of increasing violence and tension on the Belarusian-Polish border, with regular clashes between migrants and border guards.
According to the European Truth, Polish President Andrzej Duda has called a meeting of the National Security Council to address the ongoing border crisis.
The meeting aims to find ways to better manage the border and prevent further violence.
