Hamas initiated an attack on Israel on Saturday, October 7, launching the first rocket at 11:30 PM Eastern Time. The fighters managed to breach security, infiltrating numerous cities and kibbutzim across the country.
Soon after the attack began, reports emerged that Hamas fighters were taking hostages, both soldiers and civilians.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that fighters have been "murdering innocent Israelis" since Saturday morning. The mayor of Sederot also verified that civilians are being killed, describing the acts as "inhuman."
One particularly harrowing video, shared on social media platform X, captures the terrifying experience of a four-member Israeli family taken hostage in their own home.
The footage reveals the parents attempting to shield their children, their faces etched with fear.
In the video, the children are visibly confused and scared, asking questions and crying. Their father's hands are covered in blood. At one point, the boy chokes back tears and says, "I wanted her to stay alive." The mother confirms that an 18-year-old girl in the family is dead, and one of the fighters claims she has "gone to heaven."
Throughout the video, gunshots can be heard in the background, presumably from clashes between Hamas fighters and Israeli forces.
The mother urges her children to lie on the floor, saying, "Be careful. I can't afford to lose another life right now."
The video ends without revealing the fate of the family, adding to the uncertainty and fear that many are experiencing. It's known that Hamas has been kidnapping civilians and transporting them to the Gaza Strip, but the whereabouts of this particular family remain unknown.
